At Ambercrest

The decor at Ambercrest features antiques, original paintings, other old wooden furniture, all in earthy colours in a classical style.  We have a Library/Music Room that contains more than 1000 books and 500 CD's.  Our lounge area with a 12-seater table doubles as a games room or even a conference room, while the wooden deck with lovely view over the ocean can be used for meals, for whale/dolphin watching, or just to relax with a nightcap.  The black pool ensures nice warm water.  The tropical garden is home to various bird species.

Golfing on the Golf Coast

With 4 golf courses in close proximity and a 5min walk to Scottburgh Golf Course, Ambercrest is the perfect place for golfers and their families. The golf courses in the area includes Selbourne Estates' famous 18 holes and Umdoni Golf Club a short drive away in Pennington. Umkomaas Golf Course is approx. a 15min drive away. Most notably would be Scottburgh Golf Course a short walk from us. A magnificent 18 hole course with sea views on almost all the holes and a fantastic club house.

Scuba Diving

Aliwal Shoal is a world renowned dive site in the Indian ocean about 4km offshore. The shoal attracts hundreds of visitors to it's wrecks, caves and famous raggies (raggatooth shark), who congregate in large numbers during the late winter months to mate.
Our bed & breakfast is the perfect place to stay while exploring Aliwal Shoal. There are many dive charters in Scottburgh and Umkomaas, assisting both seasoned divers and people new to the sport. We will be able to assist in choosing the right charter for your needs.

Out and about

For that special night out there are many wonderful restaurants close by and for a morning or afternoon treat try one of the numerous coffee shops and tea gardens in the area. Or stay with us and enjoy a tasty breakfast or the pre-order dinner at Ambercrest.
The local nightlife is especially exciting during the Christmas break with events being organised on the main beach. Otherwise enjoy one of the many pubs or restaurants after dark.

Beach Activities

The local beach is a 5min walk from our gate. 15 minute walk to main swimming beach which is renowned for it's grassed terraces and safe bathing with life guards on duty 7am to 5pm. There is also a supertube, putt-putt and a large salt-water swimming pool and kiddies pool.
Other beaches in the area include Rocky Bay with it's excellent snorkeling and rock pools, Kelso beach with a restaurant and pub and Pennington beach. The area is renowned for it's great surf with Green Point being a must for experienced surfers.

Other Activities

We are located 35 mins from Durban and 45 mins from Margate. Both centers have great shopping and are abound with activities.

There are many other interesting activities to chose from in the area. Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve is situated about 15km away where you can enjoy picnicking, hiking or game viewing in this beautiful park. Other nature reserves include Oribi Gorge (Outside Port Shepstone) and CrocWorld, Scottburgh.

Birding in Scottburgh is a treat for any birder. The area has a recorded 277 species with many occurring in our gardens. So bring your binoculars and Field Guides along!

Between July And August the KZN South Coast is home to the Sardine Run attracting many species of game fish, sharks and birds to our shores. This is an experience of a lifetime!

The fishing in our area is legendary, whether you enjoy surf and rock or deep sea fishing, you will not be disappointed. For the bass fisherman there are also many bass dams in the area, notable in the Ifafa area.
